Santi Cazorla announced he was leaving Arsenal on this day in 2018 after six years with the club.

The Spain midfielder, then aged 33, had made 180 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners, scoring 29 goals, following his arrival from Malaga in 2012.

Out of action since October 2016 due to an Achilles injury, he was set to depart with his contract coming to an end.

Cazorla’s time with Arsenal included two FA Cup triumphs, with him scoring a free-kick in the 2014 final, which Arsene Wenger’s side won 3-2, to begin a comeback after they had fallen 2-0 behind to Hull at Wembley.

West Ham United have signed the Australia goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold from Brisbane Roar.

The move was announced on the day Manchester United strengthened their squad by bringing in the England midfielder Lucy Staniforth, whose contract at Birmingham had expired.

Arnold is West Ham’s first signing of the summer and has been the W-League goalkeeper of the year three times. The 26-year-old has spent most of her career in Australia but has also had spells in the US and Norway. Arnold was part of Australia’s squad for the 2015 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.

André Onana is concerned that if he plays at the Africa Cup of Nations he could lose his place as Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper.

The Cameroonian is likely to be called up for the competition that runs from 13 January to 11 February in Ivory Coast and could miss four Premier League matches. Onana quit international football after a disagreement with the Cameroon head coach, Rigobert Song, during the 2022 World Cup but has since made himself available.
